Mad for Accessories

The essentials for the ladies in “Mad Men.” Heels, matching hat and bag. You’ve got to look your best if you want to make it in this business…

Preparing to dress as Don Draper for Halloween this year? Two things a mad man wouldn’t leave the house without: classy leather shoes and a trusty cigarette case.

Mad for Men and Women

Mad Men is a hit TV show centered around the working men of an advertising agency in the late 50s-early 60’s. The attitude, the machismo, and the time warp this show provided wooed its fans. We easily recreated the look with authentic vintage attire we carry every day.

Old-Style Selvedge Denim

Selvage denim is made on old-style shuttle looms rather than modern, projectile looms. In simple terms, this means during the fabric weaving process, the cross-thread goes back and forth as one continuous thread, rather than as individual threads for each cross weave. As a result, selvage denim has a clean edge, whereas contemporary, single thread weaving has a frayed edge. That’s why vintage American denim is so collectable!

1960s Denim

We have had a lot of people asking for denim jackets again so we thought we’d showcase this gem; it’s a 1960’s selvedge Gauchos crop jacket, extra small!  Tavia models it very well, bringing that Andy Warhol vibe.

London’s Swinging Sixties

I’m celebrating my fondness for the in-your-face Mick Jagger swagger in the best place where time is on fashion’s side, Red Light Vintage & Costume. A big inspiration for me is London’s swinging sixties; when the nonchalant and sunglass clad defied the style police and in turn arrested us with their confident strut and cool cat control. Maybe that’s why I threw in so much leopard print!
I also chose clothes with bold lines and a tight fit, traditional staples with an edgy twist, and incorporated versatile earth tones and tough leather. All of which I think embody the sensibility of a rock star.
